is a graphical artwork-series reflecting on the exhibition Convergence.Out-of-Context [2019]. This exhibition brought together some design graduates from the course Integrative Technologies and Architectural Design Research program at Uni Stuttgart.

Each designer’s professional trajectory was depicted through a series of speculative terraria and ficticous plant growth models, with the underlying idea to interpret personal growth under non-linear circumstances. The terraria

are seemingly telepathic. Form is explored as a symbol of speculative and pragmatic growth where characters and multiplicities of a persona are depicted through a behavioural simulation using agent-based models that leave imprints of dots, curves and surfaces. Non-native plants that had grown together – yet separately – over the years, revealing transforming aspirations and attitudes.

The landscape in the terraria is purposely left undepicted, signifying erasure, just as the previous context of ‘an architect’ is slowly forgotten or removed from memory. Reflecting on the collective exhibition experience, each work was created through a series of introspective conversations between Sam Leder and Elaine Bonavia and remote design sessions during the pandemic.

The work was commissioned as part of the publication ‘When the Seed Considered Planting Itself’ by HuM Collective, published by DISTANZ verlag.
