f l o w is an architectural installation emerging from a derlict water tower as an active, volumetric surface, a morphing space pouring out and drawing in from the surroundings
--- built as a pop-up intervention in a remote village in the Belarussian countryside, as a result of a workshop with students from the EASA (European Architecture Students’ Assembly) platform. The workshop focused on lightweight architecture, digital design and gridshell construction. The development and production of this installation was carried out on site in just ten days, in an isolated environment with minimal access to tools and services. The form evokes a natural passage, a refreshing stream of new energy, drawing by-passers to the abandoned water tower which has long been earmarked for renovation. The installation aims to draw people over, generate activity and transform the surroundings into a hang out zone. The gridshell itself is a light and flexible minimal surface, made from 4mm GFRP rods,and measuring 3m x 7m x 3m. It was digitally designed with Kangaroo2 (dynamic relaxation) and form found to fit optimally on site and pertain to other design parameters.
